Why Egypt
Hardly anyone would wonder what the reasons to visit Egypt might be. It’s one of the oldest civilizations in the world and has an incredibly interesting history and culture. It’s a great experience to be introduced to their culture, to face their behaviour, traditions and religion. As for the tourist sights that are a must to see, we will start with what Egypt is mostly known for – its pyramids.
Pyramids
They are in the UNESCO World Heritage list and also one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The most famous monuments are the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is the largest one of the three in the Giza Necropolis, and the Sphinx.
Desert
The best way to feel the real spirit of the desert is to go for a camel trek. Put a keffiyeh on (a big scarf usually wrapped around the head) and have a unique time in the desert.
Cairo
It’s one of the most populated cities in the world. Go there are explore the typical colourful food and spice markets or enjoy the fascinating view over the whole city from the 187-metre high City Tower.
Nile
As being the longest river in the world, it’s a great way to spend some of your Egyptian time.
Important Tips
There are indeed many beautiful things to see in Egypt and have a great time. But there are also a few things that we recommend you keep in mind.
Inform
Before going out, inform the hotel reception where you’re going to, so that they can react in case you get lost or some other issues occur. Also, write down the address and phone number of the hotel on a piece of paper and keep it on you.
Water
Don’t drink tap water in Egypt. Water there is good enough to shower or brush your teeth but it’s preferable not to drink it.
Beggars
Poor people in Egypt tend to think that every tourist is rich, therefore sometime they might be a bit more persistent. Don’t be afraid. Just make sure you’re polite rather than just ignoring them. The sentence ‘La Shukran’, which means ‘No, thank you’ is a good way to escape from them without a problem.
Taxi
If you need a taxi, it’s best to ask the receptionist at your hotel to order one for you. If you take a taxi in the street, the chance that you bump into a taxi driver who tries to rip you off with the price is much bigger.
Culture
It’s very important to respect their culture and religion. Egypt has two official religions – Muslim and Christian. It’s preferable not to start the subject about religion when you talk to Egyptians. Also, avoid getting intimate with your partner in public, since this might be considered offensive by some. It’s also important to know that homosexuality in Egypt is not tolerated. Although it is not illegal under their law, homosexual acts in public are not accepted.
There are amazing things to see and do in Egypt and have a time to remember. Follow these tips in order to have a great time without any problems.
